“Jen was amazing from start to finish. She had a 4 hr trip to get to me and it was my first baby. She trusted my instincts and drove down when I thought it was time (2 weeks prior to the dye date and first babies usually come late.). She dropped in upon arrival and helped me get in the right mindset for labor. She only slept a few hours after a long trip before coming back to my place for what was definitely the start of my baby's debut. She kept the entire mood and experience calm and was very attentive to what I was feeling. She even politely kicked out unwanted guest from the delivery room! She kept me focused, nourished and coached me through transition. It was a looooong labor but she was with me 100% of the way.”

“Jen did a private HypnoBirthing course for us in our home when we were expecting our 5th baby and we could not have asked for a more amazing experience! Jen is incredibly knowledgeable, gentle and kind. We immediately felt comfortable with her, which made learning the HypnoBirthing techniques easy. She instilled confidence in us as she taught everything we would need to know for the peaceful, unmedicated birth we envisioned. HypnoBirthing was the first childbirth technique that worked for me. It really worked! At exactly 40 weeks, we welcomed a perfectly healthy baby in a fast, but calm, unmedicated birth. We have used the HypnoBirthing techniques in our subsequent births with the same success. We adore Jen and would highly recommend her as a HypnoBirthing instructor!”

“Jennifer’s hypnobirthing classes made all the difference in my birth experience. I was able to stay calm and relaxed throughout labor.  After being a week and a half after my due date, I was induced and gave birth to a 9lb 13 oz baby girl.  Hypnobirthing gave me a way to handle to pitocin and stick to my goal of giving birth without an epidural.  My friends who have had babies all ask how I made it through labor without an epidural. Every time I credit Jennifer and the hypnobirthing techniques.  She has a soothing voice that makes relaxation easy. I am so glad that I chose to take Jennifer’s hypnobirthing classes. I would definitely recommend both Jennifer and hypnobirthing to all expectant moms.”

“Jennifer is awesome! Even though my son's birth ended in caesarean for medical reasons, (after 54 hours of labor) she was awesome and stood by me through that and after. She was a great teacher for hypnobirthing which I utilized to the fullest during labor and even some times after in my life!

I highly recommend her and if any wants further info on the great services she can provide I am happy to provide a recommendation!

You would be doing yourself a disservice not to at least interview with her.”

“Having a Doula was not something that my husband and I considered with our first 2 pregancies. But after researching the role of a Doula and meeting with Jennifer we knew that it was something that we really wanted and felt that was important to have with our 3rd in 2012. Jennifer from the start was kind and warm and most of all knowledgeable in her profession and respectful of our needs and wants for our third delivery. At our first meeting she took the time to get to know both of us and understand what type of delivery we hoped for. At the end of the day, Jennifer let us know that the most important thing was what we wanted; whether or not it be a non-medicated delivery or medicated, labor at home or at the hospital, etc. No matter what, she was there to support us through whatever planned and unplanned events were to come on our birthing day. When birthing day finally arrived Jennifer, or Jen as we called her, was with us from the first contractions and thru almost 48 hours of early labor, active labor, delivery and placement in our hospital room. She was a great resource to coach my husband through my labor, always communicating with him but allowing him to take the main role as my labor coach and being there for him as well. She was a great "teacher" in the room educating my family members about everything that was going on. And most importantly, she was a tremendous support system for me and was a "Mommy Advocate" in the room for when I needed a break from the nurses or any bureaucratic hospital procedures. Jen assisted with birthing techniques and was on her game to get us thru a successful labor. She made sure she was with me until the end and didn't leave the hospital until baby and I were in our room. Jennifer Miller was an amazing support system to have in our delivery room and everybody should be so lucky to have her assist in her role as a Doula.”

“I had my first birth of my daughter with Jennifer. Previous to my birth I was very nervous about the whole experience and wanted to pursue having a fully natural birth experience. Without knowing what to expect of it I was very nervous to begin with and clueless about anything having to do with the birth process and hospital procedures. Jennifer was an absolute godsend, my partner wasn't sure if having a doula was even necessary but after her making the whole experience very helpful and amazing he was very thankful and glad we hired her to attend the birth. Previous to the birth she informed us on various topics we didn't know about before making decisions on our birth and informed us on the many options we were going to be facing with this event and made it a lot easier to weigh out any options we had. During labor she was AMAZING. Although the process was difficult and uncomfortable with her support and helpful labor techniques my birth went very smoothly and helped create an amazing relaxing experience. and yes i did just say relaxing, as uncomfortable as birth may be you can make the whole experience a wonderful pleasant and memorable experience by having the support of a great doula and I can honestly say Jennifer was the suitable doula for me and I would recommend her to any woman who considers her. Not only was she helpful but she has a beautiful personality and sense of humor that was a joy to have at my birth and made the whole experience really great. I didn't have the best doctor but I did have the best doula and that made all the difference in my birth process. The love and support she puts into her work is phenomenal and I am so glad she was there to support me in fulfilling my natural birth experience. With her support I rocked having a natural birth with a lot more ease than I would have without her. I am very glad I hired her as my doula and as skeptical as my partner was at first he was so glad we had her support the end result was worth it.”

“Jennifer was great through the whole process.  She was knowledgable, patient, kind, and calm which made us feel calm.  We are so glad that we chose her to be our doula.  She was great at educating us.  We will use her services with our 2nd child.  We couldn't have chosen a better person and doula to share our childbirth experience with us.”

“Jen helped me in so many ways that I can't thank her enough. She is very nurturing and genuinely cares and listens. She is great with providing education, resources, & information, without making you feel obligated. She really emphasized and demonstrated how she was there to support me in whatever was decided or occurred. This was my second pregnancy and my first with a doula. She relieved so much pressure for me, even when I got the contractions with pitocin, which were very sharp. I really had a great birth and I loved my birth experience and listening to my body. She provided great help with showing me how to use the birthing ball, getting in a tub, and helping me fully relax to the point that she alleviated the onset of a migraine for me. I had a hospital birth, but it was as natural as I could expect. She cares so much and took on the role of nurturing support that I needed, since I don't have any family local. I can go on and on about how much I appreciate my birth experience, thanks to Jen. I attribute my calm and happy baby to the calm birth that I experienced with her help. Thanks Jen!!!!”

“Jennifer is a fantastic doula and instructor.  She helped change my view on birthing forever and I could not have asked for a more enlightening experience.  Below is my journey and how Jennifer helped make it all happen.

I can still remember when I first got pregnant having very little knowledge about HypnoBirthing and breastfeeding and, to certain extent, very little desire to learn.  Jennifer, having had both her births naturally, was wise and caring enough to provide me with two great books as a gift.  I would have never bought these books myself, but I’m glad she did and that I took the time to read them.  I had never though about how deep the effects of a natural birth might have on both baby and mother and it was as though the glasses imposed by an over medicalized industry had been lifted form my eyes.  This was my first step to feeling empowered about my own birth.

Unfortunately I could not use Jennifer as my HypnoBirthing instructor since she was 4 hours north of me.  But she was going to be my doula, as my babies due date floated right around the end of the school year for the then middle school teacher.  After going through the classes with another instructor I was ready!  The idea of birthing my baby (which previously seemed like the worst part of this whole pregnancy thing) suddenly seemed like an exciting adventure that I was ready to do on.  I could not wait for labor to start.

In truth, I was not quite expecting my baby to come so soon being a first time mother. But at 38+ weeks contractions began.  I knew the sensations I was feeling were more then practice labor as I could not lie on my side and, as such, had very limited sleep.  I got up and went to the baby’s room and set in the glider and tried to get some work for the office done as I was not planning on going in the next day with the sensations I was feeling. I contacted Jennifer to let her know what I was experiencing. Although she knew that this could very likely be false labor as it was still early for a first timer like me, she packed up her stuff and drove the four hours to be here with me.

By time she had arrived, there had not been much activity to speak of in terms of birthing sensations.  For the most part, just what seemed to be the occasional string of additional surges.  But she pulled out some aromatherapy oils and gave me a fantastic foot massage and made sure I was calm and ready in case something did start.  I went to bed that night only to be unable to lay on my side and unable to sleep due to the same sensations.  Once again, I headed to my glider, this time to reading other’s stories about hypno birthing.  The surges seemed to settle into some type of pattern and I again advised Jennifer.  As some time passed, I lost my mucus plug.  It was the odd hours of the morning, and being a first time mom, this still didn’t mean things were necessarily going to start moving, but Jennifer was back at my house shortly after.

My husband was up at this point (very sleepily) getting dressed as in my excitement I was sure it was time to go to the hospital.  However, when Jennifer arrived, she wisely advised me to wait a little longer and to wait for things to progress further.  She had me put on the playlist I had carefully crafted for the experience, lit some dim candles and just let me do my thing as I started to really fall into my body through the surges and focus on my breathing.  My husband also welcome the delay and took advantage of the extra sleep.

Now, mind you, I am to much of a control freak to let go of any previous knowledge regarding pain (excuse the language, I get that it’s a four letter word.)  I can not claim to have had a pain free labor but I was able to manage it through relaxation and breathing.  So, at one point as the surges became much stronger, I lost my focus for a moment and absolutely insisted it was time to go.  So we loaded everything up in the car and drove the 5 minutes to the hospital where they admitted me at 4 centimeters.  I probably could have stayed home longer, but again, control freak in the room.

She once again started to help me get focused.  She explained various things and options as the nursing staff followed their normal procedures accommodating my requests to the best of their ability. I was blessed enough to get the room at the hospital that had the birthing tub (they only had one.)  But, I wasn’t allowed to get into the tub until I reached a certain dilation.  So I kept focusing on my breathing, with Jennifer there to support me.  This was actually such a crucial role, because when you are that focused you forget that you should drink water or pee, all of which, are very important over such a long time span!  She made sure I did both in a calm and gentle way, being careful not to disturb my focus in doing so.

When I was finally allowed in the tub, I was so tired and relaxed I started to doze off in between surges.  I remember starting to feel a sensation and need to push.  I wasn’t totally sure this was what was happening but Jennifer knew and pointed it out.  The midwife checked to see if I was dilated enough to start pushing and I still had a little bit to go.  This was the point that I did lose my focus.  I was so comfortable in the water that my muscles relaxed to the point that they weren’t dilating, but my baby was ready to come down that slide!  Thus, we made a group decision to get out of the tub and allow the surges to pick up in intensity. This was definitely the transition stage and was very intense.  I absolutely had the “I can’t do this moment.”  But Jennifer took my hands a looked me right in the eye and reassured me I could and that I was almost their.

After passing this phase we were onto the pushing/breathing down phase.  Since I had not really had much sleep, this took a very long time and I was dozing off again between pushes.  But Jennifer had a few tricks up her sleeve to help my along.  She reminded me to use low tones to breathe the baby out.  Her and my husband also tried to help my body create a little more room for the baby to come out by pushing in on a certain area of my body.  (I don’t remember exactly what they were doing but I really seemed to help as I was pretty sleep deprived at this point!)

My baby arrived that night.  She once again walked me through the medical options of what they wanted to do with my baby.  (I had put together a birth plan, but you want the support to remind you of what that plan because exhaustion and excitement can really do a number on your retention skills!)  She knew all of my intentions and was there to support me and help make them happen to the best of her ability.

When asked how long I was in labor, I don’t every really know what to tell people.  Outside of the three day process, I don’t know when one phase started or another ends or what time I want from point A to point B.  I just know I would not trade the experience for anything in the world and it was Jennifer who introduced me to it and guided me through the journey.  I really felt like I could do almost anything after this.”
